Mobile big data and methods

Mobile big data offer powerful new ways to study population distribution and mobility, from individuals to social groups. We develop methods to integrate mobile phone, smartphone, and sensor data with registry and survey sources for research and official statistics. Ensuring privacy, transparency, and replicability is essential to unlocking the global potential of these data. Transforming raw mobile data into meaningful mobility indicators involves detecting key locations, movements, and user characteristics, as well as scaling from samples to populations. Reliable and timely indicators derived from mobile big data deepen our understanding of social dynamics and support new analytical perspectives.
