International Conference and PhD Course from 29th of June to 1st of July 2020 in Tartu, Estonia.

7th Mobile Tartu biennial conference invites researchers who are interested in human mobility and mobility data. Explorations on practical applications of mobility data: CDR, signaling, GPS, crowd-sourced social media etc. are highly anticipated. Conference focuses on the latest advancements in theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of measuring human mobility. Leading scholars, researches and experts dealing with mobility data from different fields: scientific research, planning, governance, business etc. are most welcome.

We invite contributions on the following topics of interest (but not limited to):

  • Methodological developments in measuring human mobility
  • Studies using mobility data from different fields:
    transport, tourism, smart city, population and urban studies etc.
  • Official statistics based on big data
  • Location based applications
  • Measuring human mobility with spatial Big Data
  • Mobility modelling based on mobile positioning data
  • Visualisation of human mobility data
  • Mobility data management and processing
  • Data security, privacy and surveillance
  • Modelling human spatiotemporal behaviour
  • From mobile phone and sensor data to human-environmental interactions
  • Automated mobilities – changing human behaviour and urban governance

Mobile Tartu 2020 proposes also special events:

1)     PhD course “Mobile phone based data collection field experiment” on 29th of June, sponsored by the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences and Ecology

2)     “Mobile phones, travel and transportation” organised by NECTAR (http://www.nectar-eu.eu/).

3)     “Automated Mobilities” organised by Jean Monnet Network on “Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility: EU and Australasian Innovations” (CCAMEU)

4)     “Big Data for official statistics” organised by UN Big Data Global Working Group

Target group

The PhD course and conference targets researchers and doctoral students working on or interested in theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of mobile positioning, mobile phones and crowd-sourced social media. Those interested in the topic of mobile research from other fields – architects, city planners, mobile operators, emergency management analysts and ICT firms – are also welcome to contribute.
